Based on this information, land developers and speculators were purchasing large parcels near the proposed freeway expansion, mostly with an eye toward building suburban housing tracks, shopping centers, and motels for travelers. The town’s modest population (then roughly 30,000) was poised to explode. There was, however, one exception to this strategy of lowball offers. For this parcel, Disney authorized Coldwell Banker to offer $5,300 per acre plus an additional $100,000 for the assets of the trailer company itself.
